Single-Ply Roofs

Single-ply roofing is a highly effective and flexible roofing system commonly used for flat or low-slope roofs. Composed of a single layer of synthetic material, such as TPO, PVC, or EPDM, single-ply membranes provide excellent protection against the elements while offering strong resistance to UV radiation and weathering.

Prepare the Roof Surface

Before installing the single-ply membrane, the roof surface must be properly cleaned and prepped. This includes removing any existing roofing materials, dirt, and debris to create a smooth, flat surface.

The roof deck is inspected for damage, and any necessary repairs are made to ensure a stable foundation for the single-ply membrane.

Install Insulation

A layer of insulation is often added to improve the building’s energy efficiency. The insulation board is placed directly on the roof deck and can be mechanically fastened or adhered, depending on the project’s specifications.

The insulation not only improves energy performance but also provides a stable surface for the membrane to adhere to.

Lay the Single-Ply Membrane

The single-ply membrane (TPO, PVC, or EPDM) is rolled out across the roof, covering the entire surface. The membrane is carefully aligned to ensure proper coverage, and any wrinkles or air pockets are smoothed out.

Depending on the type of single-ply system, the membrane is either mechanically fastened with screws and plates or fully adhered using special roofing adhesives.

Heat-Weld or Seal Seams

For thermoplastic membranes like TPO and PVC, the seams between membrane sheets are heat-welded using a hot air gun, which fuses the material together and creates a watertight seal. For EPDM systems, the seams are sealed using adhesive or seam tape.

Properly sealed seams are crucial for preventing water infiltration and ensuring long-term protection.

Install Flashing and Finishing Touches

Flashing is installed around roof penetrations, such as vents, drains, and chimneys, to prevent leaks in vulnerable areas. Roof edges are finished with secure termination bars or metal flashing to keep the membrane tightly sealed.

After completing the installation, a final inspection is performed to ensure all seams and edges are sealed and the roof is ready for long-term performance.

Had our roof replaced after Hurricane Milton. Cannot say enough great things about the the entire team at Dauntless! From owners Terry and Kelsi to their roofing executive Eric who oversaw the project and ensured we had our new roof just in time for Christmas. I am writing this review in late March with so many other neighbors still waiting on their roofer to get back with them. Glad that wasn't my story. Fantastic service and even better quality of work.
